Conducting research at the the top of the policy agenda.

Suicide. The Invisible Wounds of War. Gun Violence. Criminal Offending. Oil Spills. Violent Extremism. Substance Abuse.

I am an epidemiologist committed to conducting research on topics at the top of the policy agenda. I strive to apply a unique lens with a commitment to building upon existing science, collaborating with experts from various academic disciplines and non-academic backgrounds, being transparent in my methods, and producing results that are led by the evidence.

Applying and developing rigorous methodologies.

I am skilled in and have published research using both quantitative and qualitative methods. This includes survey design, data collection, statistical analysis (including causal inference with observational data), psychometrics, focus groups, key informant interviews, and systematic literature reviews.

Dedicated to impact.

I am committed to ensuring that, when appropriate, the results of my research extend beyond the academic community and are shared with the public and policy makers via op-eds, media appearances, meetings, and blog posts. I have testified twice before the U.S. Congress and once before the California State Senate and my research has been cited in federal policy.

Enjoying life in the process.

I’m inspired by the tagline from one of my favorite musicals, RENT: “No day but today!” I enjoy my work-life balance… when I’m not working, you’re likely to find me at a live musical or play, in my kitchen (typically baking), traveling, or spending time with my Tibetan Terrier, Parker.
